GDES3004 Children's Book Design
Bookmark/Progression Final Output
Bookmark/Progression final design
This progression tool is designed to allow children to easily mark their current activity page, the Litmus effect is used to measure the gradient colour of each spread as a way of marking where the characters happiness levels are at. The scale can be easily read by children, indicating 'Scared' and 'Happy'.
To easily identify the bookmark as relation to the picture book, the same typeface and Scaredy Cat logo keeps the identity through.
2x Spread Covers Final Designs
Design for 2x spreads
Both spreads show the design of how the picture book progresses, the top spread being from the early stages of the book, meanwhile the bottom spread shows how the picture book progresses to the end of the story.
Both designs are every so similar in regards to aesthetics of a series, and can easily be identified with the use of hand-rendered typographic treatment, along with the positioning of the elements on each spread.
The earlier art style is of almost basic line art, however upon progression the art style in the bottom spread is more of an Oriental influence, with enhanced brushstrokes.
Final Front Cover
Final Design For Front Cover
Front and back cover have many resemblances to the interior designs that cover the book. Many psychological elements that exist within the book are highlighted here, for example.. The Front cover shows the dark/scared like personality of Scaredy Cat, it shows his body almost lost within the background with only a small part of the character showing.
Meanwhile the back cover mirrors the opposite, showing what the story is like towards the end of the picture book, where the colours are reversed and Scaredy Cat is now in 'the light'. The characters body has changed completely showing the transformation of his confidence and personality.
The character essentially finds himself through a journey of the activities.
